FAMILY SESSION Q&A

Do you cover family events?
I’m happy to cover a range of family events, including maternity sessions, birthdays (for the young and old), Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, and reunions. Working with families in any capacity is one of my favorite areas of photography because of the natural interactions and dynamics between family members.

Do you travel, and is there a cost?
My rates include travel up to half an hour from my home in Boston. A travel fee of $150.00 applies for shoots over 50 miles from my home, including to Cape Cod. I’m available for shoots throughout New England, including the Cape and islands. I’m happy to travel even further; so please contact me!

Where do you suggest we meet?
Most clients prefer to meet at an outdoor location to take advantage of the variety of natural backgrounds and lighting opportunities. I’m happy to make suggestions to you, or to meet you at your favorite spot.

What is a good time for our shoot?
If you plan to have an outdoor shoot, light is softest early in the morning, later in the afternoon, and even into the early evening in summer (after 6:30-7:30 depending on the month). Mid-day sun 10:00-3:00 is overhead and harsh, so best avoided. I’m available in all seasons for family shoots; many clients prefer summer and autumn shoots, but I’ve been out in early spring, and in the snow in December.

What should I wear?
You should wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident. If you’re planning to print images for your home, you may want to consider classic outfits that you’ll be happy to view for years to come. As a subtle creative idea, some clients like to all wear similar colors to unite their family members.

Is there time for a costume change?
Of course; it’s a great option to give you more variety in your images. Please remember that changing time is part of our hour together, and that, based on our shoot location, you may have limited privacy.

What if it rains?
I always suggest choosing a rain date at the time of booking. If the forecast is looking poor a few days before our shoot, I’ll check in to discuss options. Rescheduling is based on my existing schedule and availability, and your retainer will be applied to the new date.

What if we need more time?
We will be together for up to an hour, and can do whatever you’d like in that period. For additional time, there’s a fee per half hour, and we can also discuss longer lifestyle shoots if that’s of interest. On that note, I tend to take a lot of photos as quickly as possible, knowing children (and some adults!) fatigue quickly with photography. Don’t feel that you have to push for the full hour if things are taking a turn; it’s quite common that families are done in 40-45 minutes, but please know that the hour is yours.

May I print my photos?
You certainly may print photos for your enjoyment, as well as for friends and family. The images are yours for personal use. Print products can be ordered easily from my preferred supplier through your gallery link. It means a lot to me when you purchase products through my system, since it benefits my one-person business directly. You may not, however provide the images to professional publications or vendors of any sort (inclusive of digital files, print, and/or social media) without first contacting me.

Do you make albums?
Yes, and I work with a number of suppliers, so I can help design an album in a variety of styles and for a range in budgets. You can get some information from the album design page on this site.
